The £2.7m redevelopment of the Market Hall wasn't just about the building, but announcing to the world that we have something special here in Scarborough.
Archway for the Children (Portal to the Way) is a collection of abandoned children's toys including buckets and spades collected from Scarborough beach over just a 2 week period.
The sculpture is adorned by foil flowers made by members of the local community from infinitely recyclable metal foil and biodegradable, reused paper, bamboo and string. The flowers represent the choices we make every time we make a purchase.
Single use plastic and the throwaway culture of such is a growing issue. Members of the public are invited to step through the portal and make better choices for future generations.
