Archway for the Children

Local artist Gabrielle Naptali created the sculpture Archway for the Children (Portal to the Way) to highlight the amount of plastic left behind on Scarborough beach and attitudes towards 'throwaway' single use plastics. It can be seen in Scarborough Market Hall during World Wellbeing week from Monday 24th June.

Sculpture highlighting the problems of single use plastics

Archway for the Children (Portal to the Way) is a collection of abandoned children's toys including buckets and spades collected from Scarborough beach over just a 2 week period.

The sculpture is adorned by foil flowers made by members of the local community from infinitely recyclable metal foil and biodegradable, reused paper, bamboo and string. The flowers represent the choices we make every time we make a purchase.

Single use plastic and the throwaway culture of such is a growing issue. Members of the public are invited to step through the portal and make better choices for future generations.
